Foredecky How-to

Foredecky How-to

2nd April 2003 (more to add and edit)

Foredecky Self-Preservation

Do NOT go overboard: STAY inside the boat upright. These will help:

Shoes: grip-sole with deep cross tracks

Anticipate all movements of the boat at all time and choose the best sensible spot to be.

Hold on to something secure that can support your weight at all time.

Become extremely good at muscle tone and balancing.

When conditions are borderline, wear harness and life jacket; when conditions are more borderline clip the tether on. Don’t worry about what others might say or do, you are the most at risk.

Protect HEAD

- from the spinnaker pole swinging sideway, so stay BEHIND the forestay at all time.

- from the pole dropping on head, so always be aware of where the pole is and stay BEHIND the forestay at all time.

- Talk with the office and brace persons before sailing particularly if they are new to sailing or new to the boat, make sure everyone understands about the control of the topping lift, downhaul, and brace, and the risk involved.
